Ho Chi Minh City commences construction on a series of projects worth nearly 250,000 billion VND
Eight infrastructure, logistics, and public space projects, with a total investment of nearly 250,000 billion VND, were launched on the morning of July 1st, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of Saigon - Gia Dinh being named after President Ho Chi Minh.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place in the Nha Rong Wharf area, Xom Chieu ward. The projects, ranging from transportation and seaports to public spaces along the river, are expected to create further impetus for the development of Ho Chi Minh City and the Southeast region.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Mr. Hoang Nguyen Dinh, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, said that the simultaneous implementation of eight key projects demonstrates the city's determination in the new development phase. These projects are expected to create infrastructure breakthroughs, expand development space towards the sea, and enhance regional connectivity.
City leaders have requested that investors and construction units focus on resolving obstacles, accelerating progress, and ensuring quality, safety, and investment efficiency.

The highlight of the ceremony was the Ben Nha Rong - Khanh Hoi Cultural Park and Ben Bach Dang public green space project, covering 73.3 hectares and comprising 5 component projects with a total investment of over 29,300 billion VND, implemented under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.
The project will expand Nguyen Tat Thanh Street from 4 to 10 lanes; build the Hoang Dieu underpass and Tan Thuan 1 bridge; and expand Tan Thuan 2 bridge. A section of Ton Duc Thang Street will be undergrounded to build an underground parking lot and shopping center. The two banks of the Saigon River will be connected by a pedestrian bridge, along with a system of parks, squares, and public spaces along the river.
In the Nha Rong Wharf area, the city will create a cultural park covering approximately 11 hectares, renovate the Ho Chi Minh Museum - Ho Chi Minh City Branch, restore the Amiral Latouche Tréville ship, and transform the Khanh Hoi area into a cultural, commercial, and service space. The project is expected to expand green spaces and create a new landmark along the Saigon River.
At the event, Mr. Dang Minh Truong, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sun Group, said that investing in the Ben Nha Rong - Khanh Hoi Cultural Park and the Ben Bach Dang green space is not just an investment project, but also linked to the responsibility of preserving the historical values of the city.

The company is committed to mobilizing resources and coordinating with Ho Chi Minh City to implement the project on schedule, aiming to create a green, modern, and distinctive public space along the river.
The project with the largest total investment in this phase is the Can Gio - Vung Tau sea-crossing road, worth approximately 93,000 billion VND, under the PPP (Public-Private Partnership) model. The route is over 14 km long, comprising 6 lanes, nearly 3.9 km of underwater tunnels (of which about 3 km are submerged), over 8 km of sea-crossing bridges, and two transitional technical tunnels.

The project connects the Can Thanh - Long Hoa boulevard with the Sao Mai - Ben Dinh area, replacing the current ferry service, shortening travel time between Can Gio and Vung Tau, and completing the southern coastal corridor of Ho Chi Minh City.
Regarding the Can Gio - Vung Tau sea-crossing road, Ms. Tran Van Anh, Deputy General Director of Vingroup, stated that this is a special-grade transportation project with strategic significance for Ho Chi Minh City and the Southeast region. Upon completion, the road is expected to shorten travel time between Can Gio and Vung Tau to approximately 10 minutes, boosting trade, tourism, and logistics.
A representative from Vingroup stated that the group will mobilize maximum resources to implement the project, ensuring quality, progress, and safety, and expects the project to become a new infrastructure landmark for the city.
As part of the regional connectivity project group, the city has commenced construction of the Ho Tram - Long Thanh International Airport urban expressway, with a total investment of nearly 47,000 billion VND. The route is over 42 km long, with 6 lanes and a design speed of 100 km/h, passing through the areas of Tan Thanh, Kim Long, Ngai Giao, Ho Tram, and Xuyen Moc. The section through the Binh Chau - Phuoc Buu forest is designed as an elevated bridge to minimize impact on the ecosystem.
This expressway is expected to directly connect Long Thanh Airport with the Ho Tram tourist center, opening up new development opportunities for the eastern part of the city.
Phase one of the Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai expressway has also commenced construction with a total investment of over 19,600 billion VND. The route is approximately 50 km long, initially planned as a 4-lane expressway with a design speed of 120 km/h, running parallel to National Highway 22, forming a transportation axis from Ho Chi Minh City to the Moc Bai international border gate and ASEAN countries.
Two other projects that enhance connectivity with the Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway include the interchange with Rung Sac Road and the interchange with National Highway 50. The Rung Sac Road interchange, with a total investment of nearly 3,000 billion VND, creates a direct connection branch from Can Gio to the expressway, serving the future development of the reclaimed land urban area and international transshipment port.

The National Highway 50 interchange, with an investment of nearly 600 billion VND, will help vehicles from the Mekong Delta provinces connect to the Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway to travel to Dong Nai and Long Thanh airport without having to go through the inner city of Ho Chi Minh City.
In the logistics sector, the city has commenced the first phase of the Cai Mep Ha general and container port project, with a total investment of over 50,800 billion VND. The project covers more than 351 hectares, including a 229-hectare container port area, of which approximately 121 hectares are reclaimed land. The port system is approximately 7.5 km long, capable of receiving container ships up to 250,000 DWT, with a designed capacity of 10.8 million TEU per year.
Phase one is expected to be operational by the end of 2028, with the entire project completed in 2045, contributing to enhancing the international cargo transshipment capacity of the Cai Mep - Thi Vai area.
Within the city center, Ho Chi Minh City has commenced construction of the Binh Tien bridge and road, the section from Pham Van Chi Street to Nguyen Van Linh Street, with a total investment of approximately 6,000 billion VND. The project, approximately 3.2 km long, includes a bridge and road with 4-6 lanes, crossing the Tau Hu and Doi canals, creating a direct connection between the western and southern areas, and reducing congestion on the Cha Va and Chu Y bridges.
The simultaneous groundbreaking of eight projects took place as part of a series of activities commemorating the 50th anniversary of the official renaming of Saigon - Gia Dinh City after President Ho Chi Minh. According to the city government, these projects not only address transportation and logistics needs and urban beautification but also expand new development spaces after Ho Chi Minh City was reorganized on a larger scale.
